Let me introduce myself. My name is Sherie Spolarich and I am the founder of Jezebel’s Apothecary. I created my line after noticing just how many of my friends and family bought products that were not only of low quality but also in most cases toxic, all under the guise of some very well-known brand names. What's more, is they were happily paying big bucks for the pleasure of slathering toxic chemicals on their bodies!
Popularity grew and so did my little company. I have been doing this for close to 12 years. I have studied herbalism and aromatherapy for close to over 25 years after growing up around it with both of my grandmothers. My purpose is not only to make beautiful and healthy products but also to make all women (people) feel special. One of my fondest memories is shopping with my grandmother, Audrey, but today it’s not often that you find a place that a family of women can find common interests in one store. I also make products for the whole family. My products are not only good for you but are also fun with sometimes a tad bit tawdry, tongue in cheek and / or historically referenced names.
- Audrey MyRose Complexion Polish-is named after my Grandmother.
- Ada & Erna Honey and Chamomile Complexion Wash-is named after Ada Lovelace considered the first computer programmer and Erna Hoover who signed the patent, she was granted for one of the first computer software programs from her hospital bed after giving birth.
- Not Tonight Dear Tension Headache Roller- an aromatherapy blend that helps to alleviate headaches.
They are supposed to not only make you giggle but also inspire young women with historical, strong and brilliant roll models. Do you know just how many amazing woman there were in history that you seldom/ never hear about, unless they were scantily clad?
Many of my creations are based on family or historical recipes. Who would have thought when I was younger and would roll my eyes at my grandmothers for their “weird” ways, that I would grow up to be just like them! This is something I am quite proud of. Many of my vintage pictures I use are actual family
I grew up watching I Love Lucy and during one of the episodes, Ricky is singing the song Jezebel and a beautiful, (and to me) exotic woman is dancing around. I remember telling my grandmother that I loved the name Jezebel and her response was "no you don't".
So let me explain a couple of things here.
1. I don't enjoy being told what to think, how to act or what to believe.
2. The dancing lady was interesting to me as she clearly was into doing her own thing. Something that was frowned upon not only then but for so long and for so many women.
3. The song Jezebel by Wayne Shanklin which was later popularized by Frankie Laine is just bad ass! Do yourself a favor and check the version by Reverend Horton Heat!
So that's it folks, in a nutshell, that's how Jezebel's Apothecary was born.
But what anyone who knows me will tell you, I am an overachiever so I decided to change the definition of a Jezebel.
What is a Jezebel?
Many describe a Jezebel as a wicked and shameless woman with loose morals. We describe a Jezebel as a unique, strong willed and free-thinking woman with a passion for life. We believe that all women are beautiful, brilliant, and sexy regardless of their shape, size, race or economic status and that all women have the right to gorgeous skin and herbal remedies without the use of harsh chemicals and false promises.
